SES - Secondar School / Junior College / Millennia Institute
The Swift Explorers Singapore (SES) 2023 was conceptualised to support Student-Initiated Learning. It is open to students in Primary School, Secondary School, Junior College and Millenia Institute. All schools will participate in Phase 1 and 2.
Great apps start with great ideas.
Objective: To learn about basic app design principles
as well as how to design with different users' accessibility needs in mind
in a teams of 5 students through completing the activities in SLS.
Resources provided: Kick-off Workshop, videos and
supporting content will be shared through SLS for students' Self-Directed
Learning (SDL). TCCs will also have the opportunity to level up with
Professional Development Workshop on Coding for Teachers.
Deliverables: Students will be required to prepare
a Keynote prototype of their app and a short 100 word accompanying write-up
for submission in SLS. The Teacher Coding Champion (TCC) will work together
with students to nominate the top idea for SES Showcase on 25 May 2023.

Over 6 weeks, participating students are expected to complete the activities in SLS on inclusive app design, to learn about basic app design principles and how to design with the users' needs in mind.

In collaborative learning communities, students will come up with an app idea connected to a topic they care about, then discover how to design with inclusion and accessibility as a centrepiece of their app design.

Students will be required to prepare a Keynote presentation for submission in SLS. Templates for the Keynote presentation will be provided to schools to guide students to prepare for the submission.

Teachers are encouraged to guide their students while leveraging the lesson guides and videos on the SLS.
Experience the joy of coding through gamified activities on Swift Playgrounds!
Objective: To equip students with basic coding skills
through fun activities using Swift Playgrounds app on iPad. Students will
be guided to build their first app on About Me playground.
Resources provided: Kick-off Workshop, videos and supporting
content will be shared through SLS for students' Self-Directed Learning
(SDL).
Deliverable: Complete activities in SLS package and a
finished About Me app in Swift Playgrounds.

Lesson guides and videos will be made available on SLS for teachers and students to access.

After the virtual bootcamp, Crescent Girls’ School will host a showcase event for all participating students on 25 May 2023.

Participating students will be presented e-certificates for completing Phase 1 and Phase 2.
Bring your inclusive app ideas to life!
Top teams will be invited to build their app ideas into functioning prototypes with Swift UI.
Objective: Intermediate coding activity for selected students
to build their working app with Swift UI.
Resources provided: 2.5 day face-to-face hackathon. Consultation
and guidance from Tinkercademy.
Deliverable: Students will present their app prototype
during a celebration event held in mid-July 2023.

The top teams* will be decided based on the Keynote App Prototype which was submitted in Phase 1. The selection panel will consist of staff from Tinkercademy and Teacher Coding Champions. Teacher Coding Champions will not be reviewing apps from their own schools. (The number of teams will be revealed in April 2023.)

Apps ideas will be selected using a rubric that will be shared.

Students will present their app prototype at a celebration event at the end of Phase 3.
