National Age Group Chess Championships 2013

During the December holidays last year, I participated in the 30th National Age Group Chess Championships 2013 and won 6th place in the U14 Girls’ age group.

The competition was held at the Jurong East Sports Hall, from the 16th of November to the 18th of November. Over the three days, seven rounds had to be played, each lasting a maximum of three mind-numbing hours.

I had to compete with opponents who had more experience than I did, which made the game feel much longer than it was as more thinking and calculation had to be done in order to win the rounds. Although the thinking sapped my energy dry, the end result was quite satisfying. After all, it is not about the championship title, it is about the experience one gains from such events.

Thinking back, I feel that it was worth as I gained valuable playing experience. I will continue to work hard and try my best to win more medals in future.
