Find answers to common questions about the Swift Explorers Singapore programme, including costs, device needs, and the roles of teachers and students.
1. How will SES benefit my school
This programme has many hands-on sessions help make coding accessible to students and teachers alike. It mostly utilises the Student Initiated Learning (SIL) hours to foster self-directed learners, develop students’ computational thinking and creative problem solving through basic coding on the iPad. It is a perfect opportunity for the students to learn design-thinking principles and other skills high sought for in the digital marketplace.
Participants can also gain e-certificates and CCA points if they have performed well in the SES. Accompanying teachers, Teacher Coding Champions (TCC), can also attain Professional Learning certificates upon completion of SES coding workshops.
2. How will be the content covered?

3. Is there any registration fee or other cost to participate in the program?
The programme is free. There is no registration fee for the program. Schools will need to provide iPads installed with the Swift Playgrounds app if students do not have their own personal device. If schools do not have iPads, they can reach out to us at swiftexplorers@tk.sg (opens in new tab), and arrangements can be made.
4. Do I need a device to participate in this programme?
Students will need to have an iPad that is updated to iPadOS 16.2 or later to run the latest version of Swift Playgrounds and Freeform.

5. How can I find out which iPad my school has?
You may log onto the iPad, go into Settings >> General >> About. You should be able to see the model name as well as the software version installed in your device.

7. What is the role of the Teacher Coding Champion (TCC)?
The Teacher Coding Champion (TCC) will be the main coordinator between CGS SES team and the participating school. The lesson materials (e.g. lesson plans and SLS packages) will be shared with the TCC for assignment to participating students. While the activities are design to support Self-Directed Learning, TCCs are required to set milestone check-ins with participating students and to select the team for the SES Showcase and SES Graduation.
During the course of SES 2024, there will be briefing sessions and training workshops for TCCs. Teachers do not need any coding or computing knowledge to be eligible for the role of TCC.
8. What is the role of the Student Coding Champion (SCC)?
The Student Coding Champion (SCC) will be the main student leader responsible for making sure that his/her team is on track with tasks.
