WIGSIn hair treatment there are lots of risks and uncertainty. but people often frown at the thought having to use wigs and regard them as unattractive and natural. But now most wigs are well-made and attractive. It may interest you to know that wigs were very fashionable during the days of the pharaohs, women shaved their hair to suit each attire.

There are two types of wigs, one covers a portion of the scalp and the other covers the entire scalp.

However, purchasing a wig is not a problem but securing it is. Wearing an unsecured wig can cause a lot of embarrassment to the wearer.

Wigs can be cheap or expensive depending on the material. Wigs made of synthetic material are cheaper than human hair as they don't look that natural. But it is easier to wash. When buying a wig, it is important to check the material used for the base. Solid plastic base are not suitable for hot humid climate as it makes the scalp greasy and uncomfortable. Fibber mesh basses are more comfortable but tend to get out of shape.Line017.gif (4431 bytes)

Securing a wig

Wig can be secured by hair weaving, structure implant, tunnel graft and tapes and adhesive.

twirlbtn.gif (1726 bytes)HAIR WEAVING

This consists of weaving the remaining hair to form am anchor to which the wig can be tied. The problem with this method is that there must be some hair left to weave. It is suitable for male pattern baldness in men since there is at least a horseshoe rim of left, but it is not suitable for people who are completely bald.Another problem with hair weaving is that the attachment loosens as the natural hair grows longer, requiring repeated weavings every six months or so. Still, hair weaving is done extremely well by some professional hair clinics and is worth considering.

This involves inserting steel sutures(stitches) into strategic areas on the scalp and the wig is then tied to these. The procedure is done under local anesthesia. The problem with suture implants is that infection may occur at the entry points of the sutures. Another disadvantage is that you cannot remove the wig in public for swimming and sports as the sutures will shows.

In this method, skin grafts are used to create tunnels of skin on the front and back of the scalp. Velcro straps or clips are then used to attach the wig to the tunnel grafts. there is no risk of infection. The procedure is done under local anesthesia.
