Most common cause of hairloss in women is called androgenetic alopecia, due to the effect of male hormones or androgens on the hair follicles, which are located at the root of the hair. Why androgens cause hair to fall out is still a mystery but is believed to be part hereditary. In some cases, women with this problem have higher than normal levels of circulating androgens. Once normal hormone levels are restored, further hair loss can be averted.
Most common causes of hairloss in men : Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a prevalent hormone in men, causes deterioration of the genetically predisposed hair follicles internal structure causing shedding of hair and baldness.

A diet that is deficient in calories and protein can cause hairloss. Deficiencies of essential vitamins and minerals such as iron, zinc and biotin can also provoke hairloss.
Stress and Medications 
Emotional stress may also cause hairloss. There are also a number of medications that can cause hairloss, such as blood thinners and certain drugs used to treat arthritis.
