Laboratory Session 6: Test for
Oxidising and Reducing Agents
The Ministry of Environment monitors
and enforces safe and proper disposal of all effluent
industrial waste from chemical and manufacturing industries.
Four factories were suspected of disposing waste substances
with unacceptable levels of chemicals, which are suspected
to be either oxidising or reducing agents. Several industrial
waste samples from different factories were analysed
in your lab. Your task is to observe and distinguish
the industrial waste samples containing an oxidising
agent from those containing reducing agents.
You are required to:
- Read all instructions and procedures
given carefully, study the digital
images or video clips for each experiment.
- Record all your observations
in the Virtual Laboratory Experience 6 worksheet
provided.
- From your observations, make
relevant deductions and identify the waste samples
containing oxidising agents and those containing reducing
agents.
- The duration of this laboratory
trial is 45 minutes.
