Laboratory Session 5: Action of
Heat
A manufacturer requires a heat stable
solid to make a pigment required for paints. Three samples
of solids were sent to the laboratory to test for their
stability to heat before they can be consider suitable
for the application. You are given the task of investigating
action of heat on these three substances and make a
report of your observations to the manufacturer.
You are required to:
- Read all instructions and procedures
given carefully, study the digital
images or video clips for each experiment.
- Record all your observations
in the Virtual Laboratory Experience 5 worksheet
provided.
- From your observations, make
relevant deductions about the identity of the each
gas produced and the colour of the residue formed.
- The duration of this laboratory
trial is 45 minutes.
