Laboratory Session 4: Test for
Gases
A team of explorers have just returned
from a space exploration on the planet of Jupiter. They
brought with them samples of 'ice' found on the extremely
cold surface of the planet. Some of the 'ice' collected
are suspected to be frozen gases. Others are samples
of 'ice' that might decompose to give gases.
You are given the task of investigating
and analyzing the gases that make up the 'ice' samples
as well as the gases that they can produce.
You are required to:
- Read all instructions and procedures
given carefully, study the digital
images or video clips for each experiment.
- Describe the experiments
that you used to test for each gas evolved.
- Record all your observations
in the Virtual Laboratory Experience 4 worksheet
provided.
- From your observations, make
relevant deductions the identity of each gas produced
and the colour of the residue formed.
- The duration of this laboratory
trial is 45 minutes.
