2. Test for Reducing Agents

b) Using oxidising agent Potassium dichromate(VI)

If reducing agents are present, acidified potassium dichromate(VI) is oxidised to chromium(II) ions.

2. Add acidified potassium manganate(VII) to unknown colourless solution T.
Observations

Orange K2Cr2O7 solution turned green.
Chemical reaction

Redox reaction.

Sample T is a reducing agent that reduced orange K2Cr2O7 to an green solution of chromium(III) ions, Cr3+.
