2. Test for Reducing Agents
a) Using oxidising agent Potassium manganate(VII)
If reducing agents are present, acidified potassium manganate(VII) is oxidised to manganate(II) ions.
Purple KMnO4 solution decolourised.
Redox reaction.
Sample S is a reducing agent that reduced purple KMnO4 to a colourless solution of manganese(II) ions, Mn2+.
