V. Recording Observations
- Recording of observations
must be done immediately after each test. DO NOT
record 'roughly' or in a 'sketchy' manner wiht
pencil and wait until the end of the practical to
record all the observations properly in pen
- Any observations or
conclusions written in pencil are NOT acceptable and
NO martks would be given by the examiner
- All recording should
be clear and concise; according to the style required
by the examiner. Formulae when used should be written
correctly.
- Always remember to
record observations for tests for gases and name the
gas
- Important observations
include:
- Colour of
solid/solution/precipitate
- Texture of
solid
- Colour and
odour of gas
- Test for gas
- Any effervescence
occurring
- Solubility
of solid or precipitate
- Colour changes
when heating/cooling/when left standing int air
- Exothermic/endothermic
reaction
- Colour of
residue and filtrate
