III. Quantity of substance used for each test

  1. Unless otherwise specified, use enough solid to fill the hemisphere at the bottom of a test tube.
  2. If a sample solution is given, fill about 1/5 of the length of the small test tube or about 2cm3 of sample solution for each test (Unless other specified by test)
  3. If tests are carried out in a solution of an unknown solid, the stock solution may be prepared by: filling the bottom hemisphere of a large test tube with the solid and dissolving it in half a test tube of deionised water. Subsequently for each test, fill about 1/5 of the length of the small test tube
  4. When passing gas via delivery tube into another reagent e.g. limewater, use as little of the reagent as possible for quicker and more effective results
