Reactivity
Series of metals
|
The
reactivity of metal depends on the ease of losing
it valence (outer) electrons to form cations (positive
ions).
The more reactive metals tend
to lose their valence electrons more readily than
less reactive metals.
A more reactive metal will
displace the less reactive metal from a salt solution
of the less reactive metal.
Zinc, for example, will
displace copper metal from aqueous copper(II)
sulphate solution but it will not displace magnesium
metal from magnesium sulphate solution.
