Anion Analysis Laboratory

II. Solution Q is a sodium salt solution which contains one unknown anion.
Test
Solution Q

a. Add equal volume of dilute HNO3.
    Warm mixture if necessary.

b. Add a few drops of Ba(NO3)2 solution.

    Add equal volume of dilute HNO3.

White ppt. dissolved to form colourless solution. Slow effervescence occurred.Pungent colourless gas evolved turned orange potassium dichromate(VI) green.
c. Add equal volume of NaOH (aq).
    Add 2-3 pieces of aluminium foil to the mixture.
    Warm gently.
