Acid-base Reactions

Neutralisation Reaction

Neutralisation reaction is one of the most common type of reaction involving acids and alkalis.

In qualitative analysis, a dilute acid is often added to remove hydroxide ions from a mixture or solution by neutralisation reaction or vice versa.

In a neutralisation reaction, an acid reacts with an alkali to produce a salt and water. For example:

HCl (aq) + NaOH (aq)     ----->     NaCl (aq) + H2O (l)
