Special School Programmes

The school has also been actively involved in many innovative programmes and engaging activities:

  • E-Card Competition – The National E- Card Competition 2007 is co-organized by River Valley Primary School and Crescent Girls’ School in collaboration with Singapore Tourism Board since 2004. The main objectives of the competition are to integrate ICT into schools, promote and inculcate a strong national identity among the future leaders of Singapore as well as promote and increase the awareness of our destination brand of Uniquely Singapore across all Singapore schools.
  • Kids-Against-Cancer Project – an innovative collaboration project between the school and the National Cancer Centre (NCC) in an effort to champion cancer awareness among children and teenagers by creating an innovative multimedia interactive website (http://www.nccs.com.sg);
  • Research Attachment at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, A*Star – Secondary Three pupils participated in the Outreach Programme at IMCB (Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology). Pupils were assigned to work on a research project under the guidance of research scientists. They worked in groups and had to do a presentation on the project at the end of the attachment.
  • The Talent Development Programme is for identified students who are strong academically, with special talents or with keen interests. Students will benefit from intensive preparation in the areas of communication and in Scientific and Philosophical inquiry.
  • Philosophical Enquiry for Teens (PET) project sets a group of students off on a journey of philosophical discoveries of themselves and the needs of the society at large. In addition to acquiring a sound knowledge of philosophy, the PET project provides the students with the opportunities to develop an inquiring mind, question assumptions, share and defend their views and to evaluate other viewpoints presented.
  • Making Meaning in Mobile Learning – Secondary 1 students embark on a new kind of educational experience with the use of Tablet PCs as a mobile learning tool. The school campus is wireless to support learning anytime and anywhere. Knowledge building takes place in students with the software tools and applications that the school develops.
  • The Confident Speaker – Possessing good communication skills is perceived to be critical in enabling our students to achieve career, social and personal success. The programme emphasises on oral communications and relational language where students are trained on aspects like understanding the audience and engaging them effectively.
  • Science Mentorship Programme – Secondary Three pupils participated in the Science Mentorship programme organized by the Gifted Education Branch, Ministry of Education.
